Summer events underway at Keene

The Keene Memorial Library summer reading program is underway.

Director Laura England-Biggs said the program, for adults and children, started on June 1.

“For adults, we have a summer reading bingo and you can do things like attend an event in Fremont or come say ‘hi’ to the staff or, yes,  read a book,” she said. “There are 25 squares and our goal is to get black outs on the bingo cards. Enter your bingo card and you’ll be in the prize drawing and there is some really nice stuff available.”

The Monday library programs are also set to begin. Magician Jeff Quinn will perform on June 7 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the south lawn off of 10th Street. No registration is required.

“We are easing back into our in-person programming,” England-Biggs said. “Jeff is a wonderful magician and he has tailored his show to our theme of tails and tales so he is going to have a lot of fun things going on.”

At 11 a.m. on June 14, The String Beans will perform. On the 28th will be Overall Buddies at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

“We’re working on something for July 12th, but we’re not quite ready to announce it,” England-Biggs said. “On July 19 will be Wildlife Encounters. That will be in the City Auditorium so we have air conditioning for the animals.”

The corporate reading challenge started this week. The director said that after only three days, there had been 12,000 minutes of reading recorded.

“We’re shooting for 150,000 so keep logging those minutes, Fremont,” England-Biggs said. “Sign-up if you haven’t already. You can retroactively log your minutes.”

Participants can register at: keene.beanstack.org or they can download the beanstack tracker from Google Play or Apple Store. Readers can also stop by the library for paper logs and staff will log the information.
