Supervisors award contract to Yost Excavating

The Dodge County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday awarded Yost Excavating, Inc., of Nebraska City with the Breach Lake Flood Damage Repair Project.

Jake Miriovsky, project manager for JEO Consulting, made the recommendation.

“Our estimate for the project was $728,000,” he said. “Yost was the low bidder with a bid of $597,323.50. We had five bids — all reputable contractors from the area. I would’ve recommended any one of them if they would’ve been low, but we’re very comfortable working with Yost and so we would recommend awarding the contract to them for that bid amount.”

The other bidders were Sawyer Construction of Fremont, Valley Corporation of Valley, High Plains Enterprises Inc. of Martell  and Horizon Building Services of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The board unanimously approved the recommendation. Yost has listed a start date of June 15.

“We look forward to getting this constructed. Late summer or early fall is (the time) we predict to get it completed,” Miriovsky said.

In other business, the board considered the reappointments of members of the Dodge County Planning Commission to three-year terms expiring on May 31, 2024. The positions are currently held by Allen Rolf, Gene Ruzicka and Adam Taylor.

“We received a phone call from all three of them and you’ll be happy to know they are all coming back,” said Jean Andrews, zoning administrator. “I was elated.”

The board shared Andrews’ opinion. Chairman Bob Missel called it, “wonderful news.” The reappointments were approved unanimously.
