Board of education to begin process to fill vacancy

Members of the Fremont Public Schools Board of Education will have heavy hearts at Monday night’s regular meeting.

It will be the first meeting since board vice-president Dan Moran died April 18 after a battle with cancer. Moran served on the board for 20 years. His current term is set to expire in January of 2023.

A resolution acknowledging the position vacancy will come before the board on Monday night.

“Dan has faithfully served the board of education for 20 years and has also served on the board of the Fremont Public Schools Foundation,” the resolution stated. “His business acumen and experience were invaluable to the board, our district and to Fremont. Dan had an analytical mind and the ability to make informed decisions, the end product of which impacts lives which was vital to him. With Dan, the kids always came first and his unselfish devotion to serving the school community, and his leadership will be greatly missed.”

The resolution also lists a timeline the board is expected to follow in filling the vacancy.

It starts on Monday with the board passing a resolution acknowledging the vacancy. On Tuesday, a notice is forwarded to the Fremont Tribune for publication. The deadline to submit a letter of interest and resume is May 21.
