Keep Fremont Beautiful seeks volunteers for park cleanup

Keep Fremont Beautiful is looking to spruce up city parks with an event next week.

Casey Vaughan, the KFB executive director, said the group will do a cleanup from 4 to 5 p.m. April 22. The event is in honor of Earth Day and also the Great American Cleanup through Keep America Beautiful.

“We’re going to have cleanup groups out at Ronin Park, Miller Park, Clemmons Park and Johnson Lake/Kiwanis Park,” she said.

Vaughan said several businesses, including Methodist Fremont Health and Tommy’s Express Carwash, have signed up to help.

“One of our board members, Therese Hoyle, works for Lincoln Premium Poultry,” Vaughan said. “She is trying to recruit staff from there for Miller Park, so we have a few different businesses throughout the community and also community members who will help.”

Vaughan believes the 4-5 p.m. time slot is ideal for the cleanup.

“We wanted to catch the kiddos getting out of school if they want to help and also catch the crowd that is still at work for the day,” she said. “Hopefully (employers) will send their employees out to help.”

The Pinnacle Bank Community Paper Shred is scheduled for 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. April 24 at 1520 E. 23rd St.

“If you have any information-sensitive documents (to get rid of), this is the place to go,” Vaughan said. “They usually say there is a 50-pound limit, which is about two boxes of paper.”

Vaughan said MainStreet of Fremont has also scheduled downtown cleanup for 8:30 to 10:30 May 13. It is also a volunteer event.
