Fremont Opera House to Host First Ever Playwright Conference

FREMONT – The Fremont Opera House is gearing up to host its first annual playwright conference in early summer.
The playwright conference is for new and unpublished authors of any age or background. The Opera House’s hope is to support aspiring authors in the Dodge County area by giving them the opportunity to see their works brought to life onstage and also receive strong, honest feedback from professionals.
The conference will take place on Saturday, June 5, 2021. All submissions will be read by experienced readers, writers, and directors who will then select the top eight submissions. First-round notes will be given to all writers. Then, the top eight submissions will be given a staged reading at the Fremont Opera House that will be open to the public. The staged readings will be given written and oral critiques by at least 2 professional writers from the area.
The professional critics will choose at least one play from the top eight to be performed at the Fremont Opera House at a later date to be agreed upon by the Fremont Opera House and the author of the play/plays.
“We think it’s a new thing, especially for the Fremont Opera House, and for Fremont too. It’s exciting and I hope that this event can help talented writers in the area get their work out there and also improve their writing,” said Lee Meyer at the Fremont Opera House.
