Blizzard Warning Issued for Eastern Nebraska

FREMONT – The Winter Storm Watch currently in effect for our area will be upgraded to a Blizzard Warning beginning tonight at midnight and carrying on through 6PM Friday.
This Blizzard Warning is for the counties of Dodge, Washington, Douglas, Sarpy, Cass, Otoe, Nemaha, and Richardson, including the cities of Fremont, Blair, Omaha, Bellevue, Papillion, La Vista, Plattsmouth, Nebraska City, Auburn, and Falls City.
Colfax, Johnson, Lancaster, Pawnee, and Saunders counties have also been added to the Blizzard Warning, beginning at midnight tonight through 6PM Friday.
Snow totals are expected to be 2-4 inches, and high northwest winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph will reduce visibility drastically. Travel is expected to become impossible due to near zero visibility and roads becoming snow covered, with blowing snow expected to re-cover roads. The Friday morning and evening commutes will be heavily impacted. Power outages and tree damage are also possible.

Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you, including warm clothing, blankets, energy dense food and drinkable water. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.
“Nebraskans have done a good job preparing for recent winter storms,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “This storm has the potential to affect travel conditions during busy drive-time periods in some of our most populous areas. Please plan ahead to give yourself extra time in the morning and continue to monitor changing weather conditions throughout the day.”
If any motorists become stranded, call the NSP Highway Helpline at *55 or 800-525-5555 to speak directly with an NSP dispatcher who can send help.
Travelers are advised to be alert, be aware and check the most up to date travel conditions available
through 511, Nebraska’s Advanced Traveler Information System. The system is available at all times via phone by, online at www.511.nebraska.gov, Nebraska 511’s smartphone app or by dialing 511. Travelers are also encouraged to utilize NDOT’s Plow Tracker at https://plows.nebraska.gov/index.html where the public will be able to observe road conditions in real time from the cabs of NDOT Snow Plows.
