YORK, Neb. – Midland University’s women’s wrestling team began the New Year on Thursday night with a pair of wins over Hastings College and York College in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) dual action. The Warriors made quick work of the Broncos, winning 35-0 and then worked their way past the Panthers 24-10.
In the Hastings dual, there were just two matches of action as the Broncos were open at five weights and both teams didn’t have a wrestler in three others. At 143-pounds Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp pins Amy Fuller in just 27 seconds. The matchup at 155-pounds went a little longer with Samantha Segura-Veliz earning a pin in 1:33 over Kimberly Pollak.
Against York, there were three double-forfeits again but all seven of the other bouts saw live action.
At 101 Esther Walker picked up a 28-second pin of Kylie Martin. Salem Scobee also earned a pin, taking down Ella Whitaker in 2:04.
York’s Emily Ferguson picked up five team points for the Panthers with a pin of Serenity Durham Goree (2:20) in the bout at 116-pounds.
Avery Thomason won by technical fall, 10-0, over Claire Payne at 123-pounds.
Estrella-Beauchamp won her second match of the night with a pin in just 18 seconds over Kami Fiordalis at 143.
At 155 York earned another pin as Bella Mitchell took down Segura-Veliz in 1:20.
In the final match of the dual is was Jasmin Ballesteros pinning Charity Goldsmith-Ding in 5:00 of action.
Midland moves to 2-0 in dual action this season and will be back on the mat in Hastings, Nebraska this weekend at the Hastings Open. An early shows six teams joining the Warriors in the tournament set to begin at 9:00 a.m. inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
