Local Sports Today with Rich Ray – January 4

FREMONT – Here’s a look at the latest in local sports with Rich Ray:

Basketball

Over the weekend in high school girls basketball, LPX 79-Fremont-67.  Fremont is 8-2 on the season. The Blair girls hosted Bennington.  With more, here’s Brian Abrahams:

Turning to Midland University, the men’s team was plagued by foul trouble on Saturday as they took on Dordt University at the De Witt Gymnasium in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Warriors suffered a 78-63 loss in their first game of the New Year.
Midland (3-10, 1-9 GPAC) will look to rebound from this loss next week when they host the University of Jamestown (11-3, 7-2 GPAC) on January 7. The Jimmies defeated Hastings 98-80 earlier in the day. Tip-off on Thursday is set for 8:00 p.m.
Midland University’s women’s basketball fell victim to a late run by Dordt University on Saturday afternoon, falling by a final score of 67-63 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup. Midland (9-5, 6-5 GPAC) will be back on the road on Monday, January 4 for a conference matchup against the College of Saint Mary (1-7, 0-5). Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. in Omaha at the Lied Fitness Center.  Tonight’s game will be broadcast on Big Dog Country, 98.9 FM and 1340 AM.

Wrestling

The Fremont High wrestling team finished fourth in the eight-team Tom Dineen Invite at Omaha Creighton Prep, Saturday.  Fremont scored 110 points.  Papillion LaVista won the meet with 182.5.  Orlando Estrada at 120, Felix Bernal at 132, Thomas Wentz at 170 and Titus Richardson at 285 all finished in second place.
