Board of Health To Hold Emergency Meeting Friday

FREMONT – An emergency meeting of the Board of Health will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020, at 8:00 am, in the City Council Chamber at the Fremont Municipal Building, 400 East Military Avenue, Fremont, Nebraska.
The emergency meeting is being conducted to consider COVID-19 control measures, including mandates, directives, and enforcement actions.
Last night at the Fremont City Council meeting, the council considered a resolution to pass a mask mandate that would require Fremont citizens over the age of three to wear masks in places of business.
The resolution was placed on the agenda by councilmember Susan Jacobus. Her reasoning was due to rising COVID-19 numbers in the area and hospitals becoming increasingly strained.
“When I’ve been out getting my groceries and stopping into local businesses, I’ve been seeing a lot of people without masks on. We need to do something to help our vulnerable citizens and our healthcare workers, and a mask is just one small thing we can do to help accomplish that,” Jacobus told KHUB/KFMT.
During the meeting, the city council voted 5-3 to table the item until the next meeting on December 8th to give the Board of Health time to make a recommendation and send it to the council.
Due to the restrictions that have been placed on public gatherings, the Board of Health meeting will also be held via Zoom. You may log into the meeting via computer, smartphone, or telephone.
The link and instructions are provided on the agenda that is posted on the City’s website www.fremontne.gov and at the Fremont Municipal Building.
All meetings are open to the public and a copy of the open meetings act is posted in the room. An agenda, kept continually current, is available for public inspection at the office of the City Clerk and displayed in the Fremont Municipal Building.
