YANKTON, S.D. – Five different Warriors found the back of the net on a windy Saturday afternoon as Midland University defeated Mount Marty University by a score of 5-1. At intermission, the Warriors held a 3-1 lead and cruised to three points in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.
Thomas Moulder was the first to strike as Liam Brandso found him in the 7th minute of action. After a turnover by the Lancers at midfield, Brandso took the ball up the right side, evaded a slide tackle inside the box, and found Moulder perched in front of the keeper for the quick strike.
In the 16th minute, Brandso found Tommaso Visconti for the eventual game-winner. This time Brandso took a pass into the box and after he was denied a path to the goal himself, he pivoted and found Visconti who fired it home from 10 yards out.
Then it was Visconti assisting on a Ben Francis goal, the third of the game, in the 45th minute. That came off a set piece from a corner-kick
Mount Marty would counter with a goal of their own with just six seconds left in the period on a free-kick to make it 3-1 heading into the break.
In the second half, Midland would add a pair of unassisted goals. In the 57th minute, Shahin Tavarov found the back of the net on a Midland free-kick after the referees ruled the keeper came up from his line too quickly.
Then Liam Brandso completed a four-point day with a goal of his own in the 74th. He took advantage of a poorly played by the Lancers in their own box and booted the ball past the keeper to make it 5-1.
Matthew Ricci earned the win in net for Midland. He had 7 save on the day in 90 minutes of action.
Up next for the Warriors will be a home contest against Concordia on Wednesday, November 4. The two teams will hit the turf at Heedum Field following the women’s game. The start time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Fremont, Nebraska.
