FREMONT – Here’s your daily look at local sports, from Rich Ray:
In high school volleyball last night at Al Bahe Gymnasium, Lincoln East defeated Fremont 3-0 (30-28, 25-17, 25-17). Haley Sprackling led the Spartans with 10 kills. Fremont was paced on offense by Elise Estudillo with 10 kills, as well. Lincoln East is 3-3 and hosts Kearney, on Tuesday. Fremont is 9-7 and hosts Grand Island, tomorrow night.
The Bergan Lady Knights volleyball team hosted Lincoln Lutheran and Bishop Neumann in a triangular at Gary D. Schmidt Gymnasium. Bergan lost to Lincoln Lutheran 2-0 (25-17, 25-11). Lauren Baker had seven kills and Rebecca Baker had six digs in the loss. The Knights defeated Bishop Neumann 2-0 (25-15, 25-21). Lauren Baker had 12 kills. Rebecca Baker had 22 set assists and Summer Bojanski had 14 digs. Bergan is 12-4 on the season.
The Fremont Tiger softball team hosted Grand Island in a doubleheader at Chaplain Field. Fremont won game one 6-0. Ella Cooper pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out seven, and went 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run. Tawnie Escamilla hit a three-run homer for the Tigers. In game two, Grand Island won 10-7. The Islanders scored seven in the top of the seventh to secure the win. Ella Cooper and Mackenie Kinning both hit two-run homeruns for Fremont in the loss. The Tigers are 12-12 on the season.
