Garage Is Engulfed in Flames Wednesday Afternoon

FREMONT – The Fremont Fire Department battled a blaze early Wednesday afternoon in a cul-de-sac at 2097 Hickory Lane.
When FFD units were responding to the scene, Fremont Fire Captain, Tom Christensen, said they could see black smoke billowing out of the garage from a distance. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the garage engulfed by the flames.
“The garage is unattached from the owner’s home. When we got inside the garage, we noticed it was completely filled with items and there was also a room up in the attic. Everything was completely involved,” said Christensen.
Christensen said no one was in the garage when the fire began, but the owner was inside his home located right next to the garage.
Luckily, the neighbors came to help the resident and got him out of his home after noticing the fire. The older gentleman did not appear to have any injuries and was chatting with Fremont police officers at the scene.
When it was safe, FPD Officer, Jadyn Foster, did a kind gesture and went and got the resident his favorite porch chair from the house so he could sit and watch firefighters work to put out the blaze from a distance.
At roughly 4:00 pm, firefighters were still chasing the fire in the attic and were watching hotspots throughout the garage. Christensen said there was also some damage to both houses next to the garage. He did not have an estimate on the damage at the time or any information as to how the fire started.
