City News This Week Continued with Bob Flittie & Brian Newton

FREMONT- On Monday, City Administrator Brian Newton and Bob Flittie discussed how last week’s large rains caused flooding at Fremont City Hall and a coal pulverizer shaft at the Lon D. Wright Power Plant broke.
The Fremont Municipal Building (City Hall) has been under construction since the beginning of July, constructing a new elevator. There were only temporary coverings protecting the gaping holes at each floor level where the elevator doors will open into the building, and because of that, last week’s rains caused some major flooding inside the building.

Newton said the rain water snuck under part of the roofing as well –

And at Fremont’s Lon D. Wright Power Plant, one of the three coal pulverizers in Unit #8 that crushes coal into a very fine powder is being replaced after the shaft broke. This is the first time that the LDW staff are doing the shaft replacement without hiring a contractor to assist. Brian Newton describes the pressure that caused it to break prematurely –
