Moos & Green Talk Return of Husker Football

LINCOLN – UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green and Husker AD Bill Moos were unsurprisingly pleased about today’s announcement that the Big Ten will play fall football.
“We are very pleased with the decision by the Big Ten to play football this fall after carefully considering the extensive work by the Medical Committee,” said the duo in a statement. “The safety protocols established by the conference are the most stringent in the country, and will help protect our student-athletes, staff and coaches. At Nebraska, we have worked hard since last spring to ensure the safety of our Husker family and are confident of the steps we’ve taken. We look forward to working with the Big Ten protocols and will be ready to play on October 24.”
At a Wednesday press conference, Chancellor Green described diligent work across the Big Ten to make sure each school would be able to return to play safely, using antigen testing and the best medical advice possible. He also celebrated the announcement as an important one for the community. “This is a big day for our student-athletes, coaches, our city, our state and all of Husker Nation. We look forward to seeing Coach Frost and our Huskers take the field – Go Big Red!”
“Our players want to play, our coaches want to coach, and our fans want to watch,” said AD Moos. “Nebraska needs football, and believe me: in the world I live in, football needs Nebraska.”
Spectators will not be allowed at football games this fall. As part of the Big Ten’s vote to return football on Oct. 24, the league presidents and chancellors decided there would be no fans inside league stadiums. Players’ families will be allowed, and so will essential staff for both teams. There will be no tailgating allowed, either.
The spectator rule may change as the season gets underway. “I think we’re going to know a lot more in November than we know today,” said Chancellor Green.“We’re going to continue to evaluate what those conditions are. It is not lost on me that there are other conferences that are playing and competing as well, as we know that have started. We’ll see more in the coming weeks ahead. And there are examples of where (allowing spectators) is being done successfully.”
