FREMONT – Souris Valley finally cooled off Fremont’s red-hot bats as the Sabre Dogs beat the Moo, 2-1, holding Fremont to a season low in runs. The win allowed the Sabre Dogs to salvage the final game in the series after the Moo had scored a combined 19 runs in winning the first two.
Listen to the game recap:

The Moo entered the game averaging 7.5 runs and 9.0 hits per game, but Matt Houlihan, Austin Glaze and Tanner Riley combined to hold Fremont to four hits with only two coming after the second inning. Souris Valley pitching walked two while striking out 10. Glaze earned the win, throwing three one-hit innings of relief.

Souris Valley took its first lead of the series when Tim Conway led off the second with a home run to left. The Moo answered in the bottom of the second. Jack Simonsen led off the inning with a walk, then moved to third when Hayden Klemenok singled to right. Simonsen scored as Cooper Morrison hit into a double play to the pitcher. The Sabre Dogs took back the lead in the fifth, when Josh Solomon hammered a solo home run to left to make it 2-1, Souris Valley. From there, Fremont got just three more baserunners before falling.
While the Sabre Dogs pitching was dominant, the Moo’s pitching was almost as good, holding Souris Valley to seven hits and two runs. Isaac Van Dyke took the loss in relief, allowing one run and two hits in four innings. He struck out six with no walks.
The loss snaps Fremont’s four-game winning streak entering its 7:05 matchup against Western Nebraska Thursday night at historic Moller Field (750 S. Broad Street, Fremont, Neb.). The Moo will face the two-time champions of the Clark Division twice to close their current five-game homestand.
