2020 Husker Football Still Uncertain in the Face of Pandemic

Rich Ray contributed to this report.
LINCOLN – The next season of Husker football in the face of COVID-19 is still murky, according to Husker head coach Scott Frost.
Frost has noticed that when it comes to figuring out how, when, and if college football can return in the age of the coronavirus, just about everyone associated with the sport has an opinion. Along with those in the sport, rules and regulations for the 2020 season could be shaped by governors and public health policy makers.
Frost was on Sports Nightly with the Husker Sports Network’s Greg Sharpe last night, saying, “Every governor in the country, every university president in the country, every AD in the country – all are gonna have a say in whether their institution plays football or not.”

Frost also discussed what the Husker program can do to get the players ready, with restrictions on group training for student athletes. “There’s a different between what we can do, and what’s ideal,” the coach said.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey recently told a Jacksonville radio station that there may be some, regional, football this fall: “If a couple programs aren’t able, does that stop everyone? I’m not sure it does,” said Sankey.
The Big Ten’s own commissioner has been tight lipped on the subject. Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren told the Chicago Tribune the conference won’t make a determination about the fall sports season until mid-June. Organized team activities, practices, drills, conditioning, trainging – all are on hold until at least June 1st.
For now, the truth is, when it comes to college football: we don’t know what the future holds.
