Responsible Recreation: State Parks Still Open for Day Use

FREMONT – Part of the Governor’s Six Rules to Keep Nebraska Healthy is making sure to get daily exercise, and the Nebraska State Parks and Recreation Areas throughout the state are still a great place to do that.
State parks and recreation areas are currently open for day use, fishing, and other individual activities. Permits are still required to use the parks. In Fremont, if you need a daily, annual, duplicate, fishing or other permit, go to the parking lot of the Fremont Lakes SRA Headquarters on the west end of the park. Call the park attendants at (402) 727-2922, stay in your car, and a park attendant can take a credit card payment and bring you the permit you need. Credit card payments only; no cash or check payments can be accepted at this time.
For other recreation areas, use the http://outdoornebraska.gov/ website to find your desired park and contact that park’s office with your questions.
Parks permits can also be purchased online at https://ngpc-home.ne.gov/
The Nebraska Game and Parks department has stated that it will continue to keep open state park and recreation areas grounds and trails for day use, while encouraging patrons to practice proper physical distancing for the health and safety of the public. State recreation areas also offer hiking and fishing opportunities while maintaining a 6-foot distance between healthy guests.
Overnight camping, lodging and cabin use at state parks, state recreation areas and wildlife management areas is still prohibited through Friday, May 8, with a possible extension. The Nebraska Game & Parks Commission has also cancelled all group events and programs through at least May 31.
