Mayor Getschmann Makes Proclamation

FREMONT- During the 2019 Spring flooding, many homes, lakes, and businesses were affected in Nebraska. People from many places stepped up to help others and keep communities safe. With possible flood warnings being raised for Spring 2020, one Fremont man stood up to the plate to help out the lakes and keep people safe.
During the KHUB morning show, Mayor Getschmann and Victory Marine owner Ron Vlach talked about the proclamation they were presenting to thank Lake Leba owner and NEBCO, Inc CEO James[Jim] Abel for his work on a two-block long retaining wall built to keep water from entering different lakes, establishments, and the city of Fremont.
Vlach said, “The wall was built very quickly. Within one month, to a month and a half, this wall was built, and not even seven days later the waters rose again. As the water kept rising earlier this spring, the water was about a foot and a half from going over the wall.”
In Mayor Getschmann’s proclamation, he said, “Jim Abel spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair and fortify the dike between State Lake #20 and Lake Leba; to not only protect Lake Leba property but also the City of Fremont…This will greatly add to the safety and peace of mind of Fremont residents and businesses.
