Local Sports Coming Up This Weekend: April 5-7


The Tiger boys golf team plays in the Kearney Invite at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course, at 9:00, this morning.

The Bergan boys golf team plays in a triangular with Bishop Neumann and GACC at Hilltop Country Club, in Wahoo, at 4:00, today.

Track & Field

The Fremont High boys track and field team competes in the Millard South Invite, at Buell Stadium, at 1:00, today.

The Blair High track and field teams compete at the Nebraska City Invite, at 2:00, today.

The Midland women and men’s track and field teams compete in the Concordia Invite, today and tomorrow.


The Fremont High girls tennis team competes in the Omaha Westside Invite, at the Koch Tennis Center, at 8:00, today.

Friday’s men’s tennis match between Nebraska and Ohio State has been moved up to a 5 p.m. CT start – that’ll allow the teams to complete the match outside at the Dillon Tennis Center.

Baseball / Softball

The Blair baseball team plays at Columbus, at Pawnee Park, at 4:30, today.

The Nebraska baseball team (14-9, 4-2 Big Ten) returns to Hawks Field for Military Appreciation Weekend when the Huskers host Purdue for a three-game series. Friday’s series opener is set for 6:32 p.m.  The game will be broadcast on Big Dog 98.9 FM and 1340 AM.  Nebraska is ranked 46th in the latest RPI, released by the NCAA on Monday. Purdue is ranked 137th in the RPI.

The Warrior softball team hosts Dakota Wesleyan in a doubleheader at Christensen Field, at 3:00, today.

The Nebraska softball team (13-19, 2-4 Big Ten) finishes a two-week home stand this weekend as Northwestern (26-7, 6-0 Big Ten) comes to Lincoln for a Big Ten match up. The Wildcats are at the top of the Big Ten standings and are ranked No. 25 in the USA Softball/ESPN Poll and are receiving votes in the NFCA/USA Today Poll. Game one is set for Friday, April 5 at 5:30 p.m. Game two is Saturday at 1 p.m., while the series finale is set for Sunday at noon.

Creighton Softball hosts St. John’s for the Bluejays’ first home BIG EAST series of the season. Saturday, April 6 • St. John’s (15-16, 4-1 BIG EAST) at Creighton (11-14, 1-5 BIG EAST) •  12 p.m. (DH) Sunday, April 7 • St. John’s at Creighton • 11 a.m.


In Omaha Stormchasers action, Memphis designated hitter Ramon Urias blasted a two-run home run as part of a four-run fourth inning, while Omaha third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez accumulated two hits in his Triple-A debut in the Redbirds’ 9-2 season-opening victory over the Storm Chasers on Thursday evening at Autozone Park. The two teams are set to meet again on Friday evening at Autozone Park , with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
