Kiwanis Club celebrates playground project

Today, the Fremont Noon Kiwanis Club celebrated reaching another milestone for Fremont youth.   Kiwanian Club President Elect Don Cunningham handed over a check from the Friends of the Fremont Area Parks for $91,946.  The check goes to Burke, Inc., to install the new playground equipment  in Johnson Park near the Splash Station this spring.  The meeting at noon today at First Lutheran church was extra special for  the Noon Kiwanis Club because the Fremont Area Community Foundation also kicked in $25,000 for the playground project.   Dostal Construction of Gretna will supervise the installation, with help from local community members on the construction.  The playground project at Johnson Park has been in the works for about a year, and with significant growth on the east side of Fremont, the park is definitely needed.   Representatives from Dostal Construction were present and stated that the project should take 4 to 6 weeks to complete.  Donations , which are tax deductible, are still needed.  To donate, go to facfoundation.org/splashstationplayground.html    or, send a check to Stacy at the Friends of the Fremont Area Parks, Playground fund, First State Bank & Trust, 1005 E. 23rd St., Fremont, NE 68025.  Make checks payable to Friends of the Parks, Playground Fund.
