Wiseman’s Overtime Header Propels Warriors to Win over Mustangs

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University and Morningside College needed more than 90 minutes to decide their men’s soccer match on Tuesday night. Both teams were able to net a goal midway through the opening half and then played the next 70 plus minutes even.

The Mustangs had their chances late in the match but Warriors goalkeeper Shazz Heale was up for the challenge making more than a handful of spectacular saves to push the game to extra time.

Morningside, who outshot Midland 20-13 on the night, scored in the 24th minute to take the 1-0 lead.

The Warriors responded in the less than two minutes later as Dan Wheeler took                a pass from Conor McFadden and stepped around a couple of defenders before going back post past a diving Mustang keeper.

In the first extra session with time running down Dan Wheeler sent a beautiful ball into the box and Robert Wiseman headed it in for the game-winner with just 2.7 seconds on the clock.

With the win Midland improves to 2-0 in conference play and is now 6-3 overall. Morningside falls to 1-1 in GPAC play and 4-2-3 overall.

Midland (5-3, 2-0) will host Doane (1-9, 0-2) on Saturday, September 30th. Kickoff between the two teams is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Heedum Field in Fremont.
