FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams produced another strong outing on Friday and combined to win nine matches in a dual versus Bethel College.
The Warrior men defeated Bethel 8-1 over the course of three doubles and six singles matches, while the women fell short in a close battle with the Threshers, 5-3.
The Midland men made easy work of the Threshers as the pairings of Conrad Mascarenhas/Jamie Olarieta, Dylan Hatenelas/Christian Slupe, and Enrique Del Rio/Ryan Vitera swept their doubles matches.
Del Rio and Vitera were forced into extra sets by the Bethel pairing of Zachary Shima/Shawn Bontrager, but ultimately secured the doubles sweep with a 9-7 victory.
Mascarenhas, Olarieta, Hatanelas, Vitera, and Slupe each won their singles match in straight sets, while Daniel Klausmeier battled Bethel’s Grant Bellar into three sets. Bellar won the final two sets 6-1 and 10-8 to give the Thresher men their only win in the dual.
The Warrior women doubles pairing of Elyse Splichal/Danielle Martin took down Bethel’s Mallory Meier/Erica Ebenkamp 8-4, while Madison Kerisgo/Alyson Miller were credited with a forfeit win in doubles.
Annie Allmand was the only Warrior to be victorious in her singles match, upending the Threshers’ Serena Wong in straight sets (6-1, 6-2).
After a cancellation versus Southwestern Christian University on Saturday, the Warrior men improved to 3-2 while the women currently sit at 1-3.
Both teams take to the courts again this coming Friday, March 1, when the Warriors travel to Des Moines, Iowa for a dual with the Grand View University Vikings. The event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
