FREMONT, Neb. – Midland’s men’s tennis team fell to 2-4 on the season after dropping two matches over the weekend. The Warriors lost to (RV) Ottawa University 2-7 on Saturday at the Fremont Family YMCA and then to the University of Nebraska-Omaha 0-9 on Sunday at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center in Omaha.
“We came out a little sluggish and had slow starts at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Our No. 3 doubles team played well from beginning to end,” Coach John Steinke said. “In singles, they had a very tough lineup with great players. Sacha (Borel) and Ryan (Vitera) played really well but were unable to push their matches to three sets. Enrique (Lopez) fought through some early nerves and played well the last nine games of his match.”
Vitera and Christian Slupe downed Mekasha Tadious and Virgil Reed 8-4 in No. 3 doubles for one of Midland’s victories. Lopez picked up the other with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Reed at No. 6 singles.
The Warriors travel to Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday to take on Grand View University. Midland returns hom on Feb. 23 to face Bethel College.
