YANKTON, S.D. – This weekend Midland University’s men’s soccer took to the road to take on Mount Marty College and came away victorious with a 6-1 result over the Lancers. With the win, the Warriors move to 9-5 overall and 6-1 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. The Lancers fall to 2-6-2 and 0-4-2 in the GPAC.
Robert Wiseman had a day for himself in the first half of the match. He scored a hat trick with goals coming in the 1st, 37th, and 38th minutes. That brings his tally of goals on the season to 16, leading the team, tied for the most in the GPAC, and 5th in the NAIA.
Also in the first half of play, Antonio Hernandez found the back of the net in the in the 29th minute as well to put the score heading into the intermission, 4-0.
The Warriors started the second half of paly off strong, within the first 38 seconds of the period freshman Sebastian Osueke scored to put Midland up 5-0 over Mount Marty. The Lancers found their lone goal of the match in the 65th minute, when Fernando Negrete connected on a shot to put the Lancers on the board, 5-1. The final goal on the contest came again from Osueke in the 72nd minute to bring the scoring in this match to a halt at 6-1.
When asked about this result on the road, head coach Raphael Martinez said, “Happy to get the three points. Every point is important at this point in the season. We look forward to an important game on Wednesday.”
Midland (9-5, 6-1 GPAC) will hit the road once more during the regular season as they travel to take on No. 4 ranked Hastings (10-2, 7-0 GPAC) this upcoming Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. inside the Osborne Family Sports Complex in Hastings, Nebraska on October 17th.
