EAGLE, Neb. – Midland University’s men’s golf team tuned up for the Great Plains Athletic Conference Qualifier with a third-place finish at the conference Championship Preview April 11-12 at Woodland Hills Golf Club. The Warriors finished with 602 strokes, just two back from Northwestern and one behind Morningside.
Luke Janning (76-73-149) and Garrett Josten (75-74-149) tied for tenth place to lead the Warriors.
“We can take a lot of good things out of the results, especially from Luke and Garrett playing well,” Coach Nick Swaney said. “We were competitive and had a chance to win late in the second round, without our top couple players this year playing well.”
Others helping the Warriors to the third-place finish were Hunter Giesselmann with a 72-78-150, Joe Vest with a 76-78-154, and Garrett Giesselmann with a 77-78-155.
Midland sat in second place after the first day of competition, shooting a 299. The Warriors followed with a 303 on the second day.
“It was great to get a chance to compete on the GPAC Championship course in the preview event,” Swaney said. “If we can put together a good team round next week, we can make up some ground in the standings. The golf course fits our team well, and we feel we can compete to win the qualifier next week.”
The Warriors will host their spring invitational on Tuesday at Tiburon Golf Club in Omaha as they prepare for the GPAC Qualifier which is scheduled for April 23-24.
