SILVIS, Ill. – Paced by Garrett Giesselmann’s seventh-place finish, Midland University’s men’s golf team finished ninth at the TPC Deere Run Invitational on March 30-31. The Warriors had a two-day total of 599.
Taylor University finished first in the 23-team field with a 576 total.
“We were happy with our finish at Deere Run,” Coach Nick Swaney said. “A lot of very good teams were there, and we competed well against them. I think the team is making good progress this spring as we get closer to the GPAC Qualifier.”
Giesselmann shot a 2-over-par 144 to tie with four other golfers for seventh place. He was consistent with 72s on each day.
“It was great to see Garret have a top-10 finish,” Swaney said. “He’s coming off his second knee surgery and is getting back to full strength. He hit the ball incredibly well all week, and all of our guys fought hard for the team this week.”
Others contributing for the Warriors were Joe Vest, with tied for 17th with a 69-78-147, Hunter Giesselmann with 72-77-149, Luke Janning with 81-78-159, and Garrett Josten with 85-85-170.
Next up for Midland is the two-day Northwestern Match Play Event on April 9-10 in Orange City, Iowa. The Warriors host their own invitational on April 16.
