JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Midland University men’s wrestling team opened their 2019-20 season with a pair of road duals on Saturday night in Jamestown, North Dakota. The Warriors faced York College and University of Jamestown on the eve of the Jimmie Open, set for Saturday. Midland fell 42-7 to the York and 42-12 to Jamestown. Midland also faced Wayne State College but results were still unavailable late Friday night.
A pair of Warriors found success in the opener against the Panthers. Cody Carlson won via a 45 second fall in his matchup at 133 that gave Midland an early 6-3 lead. At 157 it was Bryson Jensen winning for the Warriors, pinning his counterpart at the 2:10 mark. That made the score 15-12 in favor of York as the Panthers won out to win the dual 42-12.
In the second dual of the night for Midland they squared up with conference foe Jamestown. This time around Midland could only muster one victory in the ten bout dual. Devin Brown won his match up by a narrow 8-7 decision at 184.
In the Wayne State bout Prestin Vondra won his matchup.
“For a young team dealing with several injuries, our competition went well,” said head coach Larry Nugent. “It is tough to win that first college match and Devin Brown, Bryson Jensen, Cody Carlson and Prestin Vondra all won their first matches today. Everyone competed with determination.”
Midland will be back in action on Saturday as they compete in the Jimmie Open hosted by Jamestown.
