FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams each won their semifinal matches in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tennis Tournaments held at Fremont High School on Friday. The Warriors, who both were regular season champions and No. 1-seeds, earned a first round bye before taking on the Morningside College men and Concordia University women.
Midland’s men’s team made quick work of the Mustangs, winning 5-0. They swept the doubles matches and then won their first two singles matches to secure the victory.
The women needed a few more sets as they defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 5-3, one match shy of the normal nine (three doubles, six singles).
On the other side of the bracket Hastings College, the No. 2-seed for both the men and women, advanced to the championship matches. The Bronco men defeated Doane University 5-1 and the women dispatched College of Saint Mary 5-0.
Championship matches are set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the FHS Tennis Courts on Saturday. The winner of each match earns the GPAC’s automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament in Mobile, Alabama.
