VALLEY, Neb. – Midland University’s men’s golf finished in a four-way tie for first place at Tuesday’s Midland Invite in Valley, Nebraska. The Warriors’ varsity team shot a combined 292 shots, a four-over par day at The Pines Country Club, to tie with Doane, Northwestern, and Morningside on top of the leaderboard.
Midland senior Joe Vest tied for the individual championship at a two-under par round of 70. Vest was joined by Morningside’s Cody Holck and Northeast’s Matthew Schaefer.
Other Warriors chipping in for the winning effort were Mike Myers (73), Cody Troudt (74), Kean Kontor (75), and Ryan Rogers (83).
Notable finishers from the other Warriors teams included Luke Janning (T-5, 72), Ryan Thompson (T-11, 73), and Joey McLaughlin (T-33, 75).
“It was great to have that quality of a field for an event before conference,” head coach Nick Swaney commented. “We got off to a poor start and had to fight back toward the lead all day. I was proud of the guys for getting themselves back in a position to win today. The guys were really happy for Joe to get individual win. Especially the way he did it by making eagle on 18.”
The Warriors have less than a week to prepare for the first set of conference qualifying rounds. The GPAC Qualifier from Willow Run takes place on Monday September 24 and Tuesday September 25 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
