FREMONT, Neb. – No. 18-ranked Midland University and No. 20-ranked Hastings College played to a 0-0 draw in one of the biggest matches of Great Plains Athletic Conference action this year. Both the Warriors (9-1-2, 3-0-2) and the Broncos (10-1-2, 4-0-1) defense stood their ground and each picked up their 10th shutout of the season. Midland runs their defensive scoreless streak to 880 consecutive minutes.
“It was a hard fought game between two very good teams,” coach Greg Jarosik said after the match. “Our defense once again rose to the challenge. Courtney Tjards and Hannah Steward both played especially well this evening.”
Midland held an 11-9 advantage in shots and a 5-2 upper-hand when it came to shots on goal.
The Lady Warriors nearly came away with the win in the 110th minute as Steward had a shot from about 15 yards out sail over the charging keeper with just 25 seconds left.
“We had some decent looks at the goal and nearly found a way to win it,” coach Jarosik continued. “The effort was good from everyone tonight.”
The Warriors will hit the road this weekend as they travel to take on the Dordt Defenders (9-4, 4-1). Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Sioux Center, Iowa.
