FREMONT – Some seasons came to an end over the weekend, with the finals at State Swimming and a loss for Fremont High’s boys in their basketball districts. Meanwhile, on the girls’ basketball side, four area teams secured their places at State.
The NSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships concluded at the Bob Devaney Center Natatorium. Omaha Marian won the girls title with 426 points. Lincoln Southwest was second with 281. The Fremont girls finished 14th with 48 points. Emma Walz took fourth in the 50 yard freestyle and seventh in the 100 backstroke. Karsen Jesse was eighth in the 500 yard freestyle. In boys action, Creighton Prep was first with 344 points. Omaha Westside was second with 298. Fremont was 23rd with 12 points.
The Archbishop Bergan girls basketball team won the D1-6 District title with a 36-31 win over South Platte at Gibbon High School.
Four Walnut Radio area teams have advanced to the State Tournament, beginning Thursday in Lincoln. In Class A, Fremont, in C1 North Bend Central and Wahoo and in D1 Archbishop Bergan.
The Fremont High boys basketball team had it’s season end, Friday in the A-5 District Tournament first round at Lincoln Northeast, versus the Rockets. Lincoln Northeast won 72-56.
