Second Half Propels Broncos to Win Over Warriors

HASTINGS, Neb. – Coming off a big win to end 2017, Midland University was unable to keep the momentum going as they fell to Hastings College 82-76 on Wednesday night. The Warriors have now split their last ten games and their record stands at 10-7 overall and 3-5 GPAC.

The two teams played an even first half as they went to the locker rooms knotted at 38-38. After Midland jumped out to a 5-0 lead Hastings took the lead at the 15:05 mark and held on to their lead, expanding it to as many as 9 points, before a Reggie Gradwell free throw tied the game just before the teams left the court.

After the break Midland once again grabbed the lead but it was short lived as the Broncos recaptured it minutes later at the 17:15 mark and would not relinquish it the rest of the way. Midland pulled within a basket a few times down the stretch but each time Hastings responded.

Chase Parsons led the way for Midland offensively with 20 points. Tyler Craven and Marti Fonolla joined their fellow starting guard in double figures with 15 and 14 points respectively.

Ryan Williams pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the team but was held in check with just 8 points. Gradwell also added 8 points in the loss.

Up next for Midland will be a matchup with No. 11 Northwestern (15-2, 5-2 GPAC). The two teams will square off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be at Wikert Event Center in Fremont, Nebraska on January 6th.
