Schiermeyer and Orozco Place Second Individually at KCAC Championships

MARSHALL, Mo. – Competing in the second-ever women’s conference wrestling tournament, Midland University saw a pair of grapplers earn 2nd-place in their divisions at the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday. As a team the No. 12 nationally-ranked Warriors placed 6th while the University of Jamestown, the No. 3-ranked team in the NAIA won the team title.

The Warriors had just two wrestlers competing in the event, Hailey Schiermeyer placed 2nd at 123 lbs. after losing via tech. fall to champion Victoria Norris of Ottawa University.

Rosalba Orozco went 1-1 on the day at 191 lbs. She defeated Maranda Dornan of Ottawa before falling to Agatha Andrews of Jamestown.

Up next for Midland will be the NAIA Invitational on March 15-16 in Jamestown, North Dakota. This will be the second year for the tournament as women’s wrestling is an emerging sport.
