Iowa junior Noah Fant, a graduate of Omaha South, is one of eight semifinalists for the Mackey Award, given to the nation’s best tight end each season.
Fant is joined by Hawkeye teammate T.J. Hockenson as a semifinalist. The others are Missouri’s Albert Okwuegbunam, Alabama’s Irv Smith, Stanford’s Kaden Smith, Texas A&M’s Jace Sternberger, Boston College’s Tommy Sweeney and UCLA’s Caleb Wilson.
Fant has 35 catches for 453 yards this season and a team-high six touchdowns, the most in the conference by a tight end. Fant was a third-team All-Big Ten selection last year.
The Mackey winner will be named Dec. 5.
