Omaha Collegiate Sports: Creighton Basketball, Omaha Basketball


Coming off a difficult four-game in eight day stretch to open BIG EAST play, the Bluejays got a needed break this week as Creighton faces its travel partner in the lone game of the week on Saturday, Jan. 11th, versus Providence.

The Omaha men’s basketball team remained undefeated in Summit League play Wednesday night, weathering the storm to defeat North Dakota 66-62 at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. With their fourth straight win, the Mavericks improve to 10-8 (3-0 Summit League), while the Fighting Hawks drop to 8-9 (2-1).

The senior duo of KJ Robinson and JT Gibson led the way for Omaha, putting up an identical 17 points apiece. Robinson was 4-of-6 from deep off the bench and drained a late triple to put the Mavericks up four in the final minute.

Marlon Ruffin joined them in double figures with 10 points alongside seven rebounds.

Wanjang Tut added eight points and five rebounds, and Matt Pile pulled down a team-leading 11 caroms. Zach Thornhill had eight points and six rebounds.

Omaha continues its three-game road swing with a trip to South Dakota on Saturday, Jan. 11. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
