Nebraska women’s gymnast Danielle Breen was awarded the NCAA Elite 90 Award on Wednesday at the National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championship banquet in St. Louis.

Breen, a senior from Ames, Iowa, is the first Nebraska women’s gymnast to win the award. The NCAA Elite 90 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s championships. Breen, majoring in accounting, carries a 4.00 cumulative GPA. Breen was also awarded the University of Nebraska’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year, presented to the student-athlete at Nebraska who exemplifies outstanding performance both in their respective sport and in the classroom. Breen adds the Elite 90 award to her impressive resume, as she was recently presented the Big Ten Medal of Honor, and recognized as an Outstanding Scholar at the University of Nebraska.

Breen and the Huskers will compete in the National Semifinals on Friday at 12 p.m. CT at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Mo. The top three teams from the National Semifinals will move on to the NCAA Super Six on Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT.
