FREMONT, Neb. – No. 8 Midland University improved to 2-0 in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play as they swept Mount Marty College (25-15, 25-14, 25-16) on Thursday night. The Warriors started each set slow but stormed back each time for the dominating win over the Lancers.
Midland controlled the net all night as they floored 34 balls compared to 14 by Mount Marty. They had a season-high 11 blocks at the net while the Lancers stopped the Warriors just 5 times.
Priscilla O’Dowd had a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs while hitting .688 on the night. Six other Warriors registered kills on the night; Taylor Petersen (6), Jenny Bair (5), Jessica Peters (4), Sydney Morehouse (4), Maggie Hiatt (3), and Brooke Fredrickson (1). Peters also had 28 set assists.
“I was disappointed tonight in our energy level,” commented head coach Paul Giesselmann. “We didn’t pass well. You have to give Mount Marty credit. I thought they won the serve-pass part of the match. However we were able to earn the sweep and anytime you can get a sweep in the GPAC and improve to 2-0. Now we’ll get back in the gym and prepare for Concordia.”
Midland (10-2, 2-0 GPAC) will hit the road for the first time conference play when they travel to Seward, Nebraska to take on Concordia (9-0, 1-0 GPAC) next Tuesday, September 11th.
