ORANGE CITY, Iowa –No. 25 Midland University traveled to Orange City, Iowa for a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup against No. 5 Northwestern College, falling to the Red Raiders 71-95. The Lady Warriors drop to 7-5 on the season and 4-4 in GPAC play while the Red Raiders move to 10-1 overall and a 6-1 GPAC record.
Northwestern jumped out to an early 12-3 lead in the first quarter and wouldn’t look back from there. They held a 31-50 advantage going into the half, where the Lady warriors hoped to regroup coming out of the break.
The Red Raiders would come out of the halftime break just as hot as they started the game, scoring 27 in the third quarter to Midlands 19, the Lady Warriors just couldn’t stop the high powered Red Raider offense.
In the fourth quarter the gap seemed to be too large for the Lady Warriors to overcome, as the final buzzer sounded Midland found themselves on the wrong side of a 71-95 final score.
Makenna Sullivan, Amanda Hansen, and Maddie Egr all scored 14 points in the contest, with Katy Gathje coming off the bench with nine points herself. Maddie Meadows led the team with four assist, while Egr hauled in seven rebounds to lead the team.
Midland (7-5, 4-4 GPAC) will be back in action in a week as they host No. 15 Dordt College (10-3, 5-3 GPAC) on December 15th. The game will tip off at 2:00 p.m. inside the Wikert Event Center in Fremont, Nebraska.
