No. 20 Lady Warriors Dominate Lancers for GPAC Win

FREMONT, Neb. – No. 20 Midland University picked up their first Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) win in convincing fashion with a 5-0 win over Mount Marty College on Saturday night. The Warriors improve to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the GPAC while the Lancers fall to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the GPAC.

Senior midfielder PT Perez recorded a hat-trick with one goal in the first half and two in the second to bring her total to four goals on the year. Midland outshot Mount Marty 42-0 with a 21-0 advantage in shots on goal.

“It was good to get PT going tonight in terms of her hat trick,” commented head coach Greg Jarosik. “Holding 42-0 shot advantage in any game, at any level, is saying something. We held the ball well and were able to get numerous players quality minutes. We look forward to heading north on Wednesday as we take on a difficult Morningside team.”

The Warriors got out to a quick start with six early shots before Perez would find the back of the net in the 12th minute to give Midland a 1-0 lead. The opportunities kept coming for the Warriors as they racked up 23 shots in the half, but none would make it past the Lancers keeper. Midland would maintain a 1-0 lead going into the break.

Rodriguez would waste no time adding to the lead as she chipped one past the goalkeeper in the 52nd minute to bring the score to 2-0. Another goal would come off the foot of Perez to give her team a 3-0 edge in the 61st minute. The Warriors continued to maintain control of the ball, and Delaney Kress would bring the score to 4-0 with her first goal of the season in the 74th minute. Perez would capture the hat-trick in the 85th minute as the Warriors would run away with the 5-0 shutout victory.

Midland (4-2-1, 1-1 GPAC) takes to the pitch again on Wednesday, October 2 as they travel to Sioux City, Iowa to take on Morningside (3-5, 1-1 GPAC). The game will kick off at 5:30 p.m. The Warriors are looking for the sixth-straight victory over the Mustangs.
