No. 18 Lady Warriors Blank Mustangs in GPAC Home Opener

FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University’s women’s soccer team picked up their seventh win of the season on Tuesday night as they defeated Morningside 3-0 in front of their home crowd.  The win improves the Warriors record to 7-1-1 (1-0-1 GPAC) while the Mustangs fall to 5-4 (1-1 GPAC).

The two teams were deadlocked through the early stages until the Mustangs fouled in the box setting up a penalty kick opportunity for the Lady Warriors. PT Perez froze the goalkeeper and went top shelf for the eventual game-winner. It was her third game-winner of the season.

Less than a minute later Marisa Martinez found the back of the net as she headed in the ball off of a corner kick by Allison Buehring.

Perez added another goal in the second half, in the 51st minute, to seal the victory.

Rachel Thigpen and the Midland defense was solid again. This year the Warriors have allowed just four goals in eight games, including seven shutouts.

“Our defense was solid once again tonight,” stated head coach Greg Jarosik. “Coming into the year most teams knew we’d be tough to stop on the offensive end but our improvement defensively has been a major key to our success so far.”

Midland will be back in action on Saturday, September 30 as they take on Doane. First kick between the Warriors and the Tigers is set for 1:00 p.m. at Heedum Field in Fremont.
