FREMONT, Neb. – No. 12 Midland University women’s hockey dropped a pair of games over the weekend to the top-ranked team in the ACHA Division II, Minot State University. The Beavers from Minot, have only dropped one game all year and they move to 15-1 on the year. While Midland moves to 8-11-2 on the season as they move into a much needed break until the New Year.
Friday night was the opener for this two game series, the Beavers got on the scoreboard first early in the first period to go up 1-0 on the Lady Warriors. Coming out of the first intermission, the Warriors’ Kelsey Beebe would score to level the game at 1-1. Minot would score two more in the second period going up 3-1, heading into the final period.
In the final period, Minot would score one more to go up 4-1 over the Lady Warriors and give themselves a sizeable lead. Midland made a great attempt to comeback in this game, scoring two goals – one by Tieryn Arens and the final goal by Alyssa Knott to finish the game at 4-3, in favor of the Beavers.
In Saturday night’s contest, it looked as though it would go the Warriors when Tieryn Arens netted a shot, for her second on the weekend, and put the Warriors up 1-0 in the first period. Minot State would respond with four unanswered goals in the contest and take the sweep of the Warriors on the weekend, 2-0.
Up next for the Lady Warriors (8-11-2) is a nice break for the athletes and they won’t have another game until January 11th and 12th when they will take on University of Denver (3-9) in a trio of games. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. January 11th inside Sidner Ice Arena in Fremont, Neb.
