FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University has announced Nathan Ragsdell as the new eSports coach. Ragsdell is from nearby Omaha, Nebraska, where he has worked to grow the area eSports community, coaching local gaming clubs in Overwatch, among other games.
Ragsdell, a life-long gamer, grew up in a military family, spending most of his childhood overseas in England. His family moved back to the states, settling in Omaha. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies.
Nathan is an active player in the Overwatch community. In 2017, he developed the Overwatch Omaha eSports group, which has grown the game in the area. Ragsdell is a skilled player, and has reached the rank of Grandmaster, which is in the top 1% of players worldwide. His teams have competed in area tournaments, winning two prominent contests earlier this year.
“We are excited to have Nate’s knowledge and experience to lead our eSports program,” said Midland University Director of Athletics, Dave Gillespie. “We look forward to the continued growth of our eSports program under his guidance.”
Midland University will begin their third-year of eSports competition in the fall. The Warriors compete in games of League of Legends, Overwatch and Hearthstone.
