ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – After a thrilling match in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Tournament’s Round of 16, Midland University will face their toughest test of the season as they take on No. 1-ranked Southeastern University on Wednesday evening.
ABOUT THE WARRIORS: No. 21 Midland University came back to tie No. 5 Martin Methodist on Tuesday afternoon with 15 minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime and then a shootout. The Warriors were victorious in the penalty shootout 3-1 thanks to more than a handful of great save by Rachel Thigpen. She was voted the Great Plains Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 and showed why with 10 saves during the 110 minutes of game action and then another three stops in the shootout. PT Perez scored the tying goal in regulation and then added another in the shootout along with Harlee Zancanelli and Marley Farrell. Midland boasts an impressive 14-2-4 overall record in 2018 heading into Wednesday’s. The Warriors have allowed just nine goals all season, with each goal coming from teams that were either ranked or receiving votes at the time of the game.
ABOUT THE FIRE: Southeastern comes in ranked No. 1 in the final regular season NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The Fire have an impressive 19-1-2 record in 2018 after defeating John Brown 3-0 in the Round of 16. Uchenna Kanu is having the best offensive season in NAIA history for Southeastern. The junior from Nigeria has scored 54 goals this year setting a new national record in women’s soccer. She also ranks first in total points (126) when adding her 18 assists this year. As a team they come into Wednesday averaging just over 5 goals per game. They’ll give the Midland defense all they can handle on their attacking third of the field.

The winner of Wednesday’s game will advance to the NAIA National Championship Semifinals to be played on Friday, November 30. They will matchup with the winner of the William Carey (18-3-0) and Lindsey Wilson (13-3-2) game.
