Midland Wins Fifth Straight GPAC Dance Championship

HASTINGS, Neb. – For the fifth consecutive year, Midland’s dance team won the Great Plains Athletic Conference championship on Saturday. Midland finished eight points better than its closest competitor at the event at Lynn Farrell Arena.

“I am so unbelievably proud of the performance the dancers gave,” first-year Coach Katie Speicher said. “They gave their all in the routine and did such a great job of supporting each other both on and off the floor. We had a huge support system of Midland fans in the audience, which helped bring their performance to a new level. We are so excited for our fifth GPAC win and are ready to take on regionals in two weeks.”

Judges awarded the Warriors with 88.38 points for first place. Morningside was second with 80.38 and Hastings was third with 80.13.

This is the second year competitive dance has been recognized as official championship sport by the GPAC and the NAIA. Prior to that, the sport was in “invitational status.”

Midland, the defending NAIA National champions, will participate in the NAIA National Northwest Qualifier on February 23 in Sioux City, Iowa, in hopes of advancing to the NAIA National Championship on March 9-10 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
