Midland VB Heads to NAIA, Creighton & Huskers Off to NCAA Tournament

The Midland Warrior Volleyball team begins it’s fifth straight appearance in the NAIA National Tournament, tomorrow, when the Warriors take on Marian (IN).  First serve is 3pm. The match will be broadcast on AM 1340 KHUB.

The four-time defending BIG EAST champion Creighton Volleyball team will appear in the NCAA Tournament for the sixth straight time, and seventh overall, when it takes on Coastal Carolina on Friday at 7 p.m. Central in Omaha, Neb. The field of 64 was announced on Sunday night on ESPNU.

Creighton earned the No. 9 national seed, the second time in program history it has been seeded. The 2015 team was seeded No. 16.

Creighton is 1-0 all-time against Coastal Carolina, defeating the Chanticleers in the First Round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Amber Vidal was one of four Mavericks in double-figures as Omaha held off Wofford 64-60 on Sunday at Richardson Indoor Stadium.

The Mavericks have now won four straight and improve to 4-2 (0-0 Summit League), while the Terriers drop to 2-3 (0-0 SoCon).

Omaha begins a four-game homestand next week when it hosts Graceland on Thursday, Nov. 30.  Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Baxter Arena.


The Nebraska volleyball team was selected as the No. 5 overall seed for the NCAA Tournament on Sunday night and will host the NCAA Tournament first and second rounds at the Bob Devaney Sports Center this weekend.

The Big Ten champion Huskers, making their 36th straight NCAA Tournament appearance, will open the tournament on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. against the Stony Brook Seawolves (18-12), champions of the America East. The 4:30 p.m. match will feature the Florida State Seminoles (18-10) of the ACC and the Washington State Cougars (17-15) of the Pac-12. Friday’s winners will meet on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.

The 2017 season marks the 33rd time that Lincoln has hosted NCAA first and second round competition. Nebraska is 102-31 (.767) in 35 previous NCAA Tournament appearances. The 2017 Husker squad is looking to become the first Nebraska volleyball team to reach three straight final fours. This year’s NCAA Championship is set for December 14-16 at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
