The Midland University women and men’s basketball teams hosted Concordia University at the Wikert Center, Wednesday night. In the women’s game, Concordia, the number one ranked team in NAIA Division II came into the game 24-0 and 14-0 in the GPAC, only to suffer their first loss of the season to the hometown Warriors, 86-77. Midland was led in scoring by Joelle Overkamp with 27 points. Maddie Egr added 19, while Amanda Hansen and Madison Severson chipped in 12. Concordia got 15 points apiece from Mary Janovich and Taylor Cockerill. Quinn Wragge added 10. The victory for Midland was the first over Concordia in 35 attempts….going back to 2002. The Midland victory over the top-ranked team in the country was the first since Midland defeated Doane, in Crete, in February of 1996.
In the men’s game, the Warriors defeated the Bulldogs, 67-61. Midland got 15 points from Ryan Williams, and 12 each from Shak Triplett and Reggie Gradwell. Concordia was led by Tanner Shuck with 15 points. Clay Reimers had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Kyle Pierce and Jake Hornick added 12 points each. The Warrior men won their third in a row and are now 14-12, 5-10 in the GPAC. Both Warrior teams will host Mount Marty College at the Wikert Event Center, Saturday afternoon.
