COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – Midland University sent four of their throwers to the Iowa Western Spring Classic on Saturday. Avery Blahauvietz, Nathan Houser, Reid Kirlin, and Abby Stogdill all excelled in the small meet featuring teams from the region.
Blahauvietz earned a pair of second place finishes in the women’s shot put and hammer throw. She had a best throw of 36’ 4.25” in the shot and set a new personal-best in the hammer throw with a toss of 152’ 5”. Her mark in the hammer throw moved her into third place all-time in Midland history.
Stogdill placed fourth in the women’s shot put with a mark of 35’ 8.5”.
Houser won the men’s discus and men’s hammer throw events with solid marks. He had a best of 154’ 8” in the discus and 197’ 6” in the hammer throw.
Kirlin was fifth in the discus with a throw of 140’ 3” and finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 171’ 3”. His mark in the hammer throw was a personal best and ranks third best in school history.
The throwers will be back in action, along with the rest of the Warriors track and field team, on Thursday, April 5th. They will be competing in the Concordia Outdoor Invitational that was moved up due to the poor weather that is expected over the weekend.
