LINCOLN, Neb. – Midland University cross country teams competed at the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational this past weekend which featured teams from NCAA Division I, II, III, NJCAA, and the NAIA.
“It was another highly competitive meet where we saw some of the best teams in the region at all levels”, said Midland head coach Daniel Gerber. “For the first time really running hills this season we ran well and rather consistent throughout the race.”
Midland women placed 16th as a team in the 5k and were led by junior Vivian Sanchez who posted the low time for the Warriors at 21:05.5. Sanchez was followed by senior Paige Thelen who clocked in at 22:04.8. Faith Chepengat of Iowa Western was the first-place finisher with a time of 17:09.1.
Other finishers for the Lady Warriors included: Ally Muessel, 22:19.7 (102), Erin Kahnk, 22:59.2 (105), Victoria Bitz, 25:08.5 (107), and Jaineily Ortiz, 25:28.0 (108).
The Warrior men finished 17th as a team in the 8k. Midland’s lowest individual runner was sophomore CJ Martinez with a time of 26:36.3. Freshman Jose Gonzales followed with a time of 27:06.0. George Kusche from the University of Nebraska placed first with a time of 24:12.2.
Other finishers for the men included: Alex France, 28:54.7 (110), Christian McCafferty, 29:57.2 (117), Christopher Lopez, 30:02.1 (118), Ross McMahon, 31:29.1 (121), and Dylan Hill, 31:50.2 (122).
The Warriors will be in action again on Saturday at the Dean White Invite in Crete, Nebraska. The first race is set for a 10:00 a.m. start.
