Midland Places Three on All-GPAC First Team, Two Earn Honorable Mention

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletics Conference has announced the selection of the 2018 GPAC Men’s Soccer All-Conference teams. The first and second teams are comprised of 13 members each with an honorable mention list as well. This year Midland University had five players earn All-GPAC honors.

Robert Wiseman (forward), James Kilburn (midfielder), and Cesar Cuellar (defender) each earned All-GPAC First Team honors this year after guiding Midland to a fifth-place finish in conference. The trio have been key pieces that last two or three years for the Warriors. Daniel McBriarty and Gabriel Gaiotto were both named honorable mentions.

Wiseman, a junior from Omaha, Nebraska, had 14 goals during conference play which ties him with GPAC Offensive Player of the Year, Daniel Whitehall of Hastings. He finished the year with 18 goals on the season.

Kilburn served as team captain for Midland this year and kept the pitch organized from his midfield position. There were many new faces on the Warriors’ roster this year and he was able to help with getting everyone up to speed early.

Cuellar, McBriarty, and Gaiotto were key pieces for the Midland defense that had six shutouts on the year. They allowed just over 1.5 goals per game and kept the team within striking distance every game.

“It’s always great to see our players get recognized for their hard work throughout the season,” commented Midland head coach Raphael Martinez. “We are pleased to have Rob, James and Gabriel returning next season. It is also pleasing to see Cesar and Daniel honored as both have been loyal servants to the program for the past four years. Both have left a lasting impression on the Midland soccer.”

Midland finished their year with a 10-8-1 record and advanced to the GPAC Postseason Tournament for the eighth consecutive season. Their season came to an end with a tough loss via a penalty kick shootout in the quarterfinals at Concordia.
