SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Midland University Men’s Golf team’s season officially tee’d off with a top three finish at their first tournament of 2018-19.
The Warriors varsity team placed third in the Morningside Fall Invite on Tuesday, August 28. Midland team shot a combined 22-over par, just behind Northwestern (+18) and Morningside (+21). The Warriors varsity team was comprised of senior Joe Vest, juniors Cody Troudt, Kean Kontor, and Mike Myers, and freshman Ryan Rogers.
Midland found great success in the individual side as 11 Warriors placed in the top 40 on the day out of 91 total golfers. The low round was shot by Ryan Thompson, finishing T-7 at 4-over par.
Rogers and Troudt finished T-11 at 5-over par, Kontor and Myers were T-16 at 6-over par, and Vest was T-24, 7-over par. Caleb Badura (Northwestern) and Jonny Douglas (Morningside) tied for the lowest individual rounds, each shooting an even-par 72 on the day.
Other Warriors finishers in the top 40 included Myles Shonsey and Colin Wright (T-16, +6), and Luke Janning, Peyton Koch, and Jake Butler (T-38, +11).
The Warriors will hit the course again next week as they travel to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for the two-day Ferguson Invite beginning on September 4. Tee times from Lincoln Park Golf Club have not yet been determined.
